The Royal Family’s Ramadan Gesture: King Charles And Queen Camilla Pack Iftar Meals At Darjeeling Express

Royal Family

In a heart-touching pre-Ramadan gesture, King Charles and Queen Camilla visited Darjeeling Express, one of London’s favourite Indian restaurants, on February 26. The royal couple were seen in high spirits, packing Ramadan parcels, which comprised of dates and biryani, to be given out to families and frontline workers. The visit, part of their continuing interaction with different communities, was posted on The Royal Family’s official X (formerly, Twitter) account.

A Speedy Royal Family Duo At Work

The acclaimed chef and founder of Darjeeling Express, Asma Khan, was shocked by the speed at which King Charles packed donation boxes. For a brief, tongue-in-cheek moment, Khan joshed, ‘You are packaging dates quicker than I can seal them!’ to which the King amusingly retorted, ‘I don’t squander time.’

To the light-hearted mood, Khan added afterward, ‘I never knew that this is a fast couple,’ eliciting even more laughter among the onlookers. The royal couple’s energy and ‘hands-on’ attitude earned approval from the staff of the restaurant as well as the general public.

Preparation Of Biryani For A Cause

Aside from preparing Ramadan parcels, King Charles and Queen Camilla entered the kitchen to cook biryani with Asma Khan and head chef Asha Pradhan. The food was donated to Doorstep, an organisation in London that helps families find permanent homes.

On the visit, Queen Camilla teasingly called out to her husband, who was briefly inattentive while speaking with visitors. ‘I think my husband is meant to be doing that,’ she joked, prior to saying, ‘Gentlemen, we are waiting!’ The gathering was filled with smiles, and it reflected the warmth and humor of the royal couple.
