The Royal wedding reception of His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum’s sons is set to happen today at the Dubai World Trade Centre. The Dubai Palace has been lit up and preparations are in full swing for this evening’s grand reception. Here’s all that we know so far.
Which Royals are getting married?
Sheikh Hamdan is married to Sheikha Sheikha bint Saeed bin Thani Al Maktoum
Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum is married to Sheikha Maryam bint Butti Al Maktoum

What are the ceremonies?
The Proposal
An Emirati wedding is a seven-day royal affair, kicked off with a grand engagement or the Proposal.
The Melcha
This is then followed by the signing of a marriage contract or the Melcha through a court, an imam or a sheikh. The men-only ceremony is attended by the fathers of the groom and the bride, cousins, uncles and any other male member in both families. The time gives both families an opportunity to get to know each other.
The Dazza
It is during this phase that the bride and the groom will get to know each other, the family habits and the routines. The groom’s family prepares the Dazza, a grand packaging of all things expensive including jewellery, perfumes, prayer mat, Quran, mehr and an exquisite wedding troussea.
The Henna
Few days prior to the wedding, a female-only party called Henna is held for all the women from the bride and groom’s family.
The Wedding
On the day of the wedding, ceremonies take place separately for the men and the women in separate venues or two different halls in the same venue. The men wear the kandoura and also perform the traditional Emirati cane line dancing.
The Food
Traditional Emirati meals are served in separate majlis halls for men and women. Food is served in large dishes and includes the ouzi — a whole lamb, biryani, threed, rogag, salona and other delicacies. Traditional desserts like lougaimat are also part of the grand feast.
Where is the Royal reception happening?
The reception is happening on June 6 at the Dubai World Trade Centre, at 4:00 pm.
The brides and the grooms were married in a private wedding ceremony earlier this May. While the ceremony spelled grandeur, the invitation card was jaw-dropping too!
The lavish invitation included a large box, with details of the ceremony embroidered in gold. Inside the box was the delicious Arabic delicacy- Gold Halwa, a sweet made of ghee, saffron, sugar, and cardamom.
