The painting was taken from a museum outside of Amsterdam in March 2020. According to reports, the epidemic caused the aforementioned museum to close. Returning to the strange occurrence, the painting was recently returned by an unidentified person who packed it inside a sizable blue IKEA bag.
According to reports, the painting was also accompanied by a cushion that was meticulously wrapped in plastic, inside a pillowcase. Reportedly, the robbery happened in the early stages of the COVID-19 pandemic when a thief burst through a glass door at 3:15 am and was able to escape on a motorbike with the priceless artwork. The painting didn’t turn up until recently, even though a person was detained in connection with the theft in 2021.
A Stranger Offered To Return The Artwork
A few weeks prior, someone had gotten in touch with the detective and offered to return the stolen painting. He gave the enigmatic person the address he had in Amsterdam, and they duly delivered the artwork there. In the past, Arthur Brand has aided law authorities in the recovery of stolen items of art, notably two bronze statues known as Hitler’s horses in 2015.
Van Gogh’s father was a pastor in the parsonage garden in Nuenen. It is depicted in the painting The Parsonage Garden at Nuenen in Spring. The painting may be worth anywhere between $3.2 million to $6.4 million, which equals around ₹50 crores.
The painting’s owner, the Groninger Museum, who had given it to the Singer Laren Museum, felt great pleasure and joy at having it back. The painting was somewhat scratched when it was brought back. Additionally, it is currently undergoing repair at the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam.
