We all know Kerala for its picturesque beaches, serene backwaters, and varied demography that make it the perfect vacation getaway! But did you know this state has a lot to offer for all the adventurous souls out there as well? To promote its adventure tourism, Kerala Tourism recently hosted the International Paragliding Festival at Vagamon. This festival saw impressive participation from international as well as domestic paragliders and it was a great success. Indian Participants Bag Top Spots At International Paragliding Festival
Kerala Tourism hosted the International Paragliding Festival in Vagamon from March 14 to 17. The idea was to promote Kerala as the ultimate destination for adventure tourism in India and it was indeed a great success. 87 participants from India and seven other countries participated in the festival. The international participants were mainly from France, Germany, Italy, New Zealand, Australia, the US, the UK, and Nepal. From Indian states, the competition saw participants from Delhi, Himachal Pradesh, Maharashtra, Sikkim, Goa, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Uttarakhand, and Arunachal Pradesh.
It was one of India’s largest aero sports adventure festivals and Indian participants clinched top spots during the competition. Sushanth Thakor from Himachal Pradesh secured first place in the competition and was awarded a cash prize of ₹1.5 lakhs. Kerala’s Jobin Sebastian, Mithun, and Arun Kumar secured the third, sixth, and 11th positions, respectively. Jobin Sebastian was presented ₹50,000 cash for his win as well. Nepal’s Aman Thapar made it to the second position in the competition and won ₹1 lakh at the competition.
More Adventurous Championships To Look Out For In Kerala This Year
Kerala Tourism has a busy calendar ahead with more adventurous championships and festivals lined up for 2024. To begin with, there is the International Surfing Festival at Varkala from March 29 to 31. This is the first national surfing championship of the year and athletes from across India will participate in various categories.
After that, the state will host the 7th edition of the International Mountain Cycling Championship from April 26 to 28 in Mananthavady, Wayanad. This time around, Kerala is expecting cyclists from 25 countries to participate in a five-kilometre-long track covering terrains like mud, rock, and water.
From July 25 to 28, Kerala Tourism will host the 10th edition of the Malabar River Festival. There will be competition in kayak slalom, boater cross, and downriver competition categories.
