Bhaang Papad is an unusual treat that has recently captured the attention of both residents and the internet community in Amritsar, a city known for its extensive culinary traditions. Bhaang, or cannabis leaves, are included in this creative take on the classic papad, creating a distinct flavour profile that has many people intrigued.
How Is Bhaang Papad Made?
The artist’s commitment to creating this unique snack is demonstrated by this Instagram reel that shows the painstaking preparation of these bhaang-infused papads. The elaborate process of making Bhaang Papad is captured in this Instagram film that was posted by @psyfyi.magazine. In the opening scene of the video, we can see craftspeople choosing fresh bhang leaves, grinding them finely, and combining them with urad dal (black gram) flour and a variety of traditional spices.
To get the right crispness, this dough is flattened out into thin discs, sun-dried, and then fried until crisp. In contrast to Amritsar’s conventional cuisine, the resulting crispy, flavourful papad has subtle earthy undertones from the bhang, creating a unique sensory experience.
This Is What Netizens Think
Netizens are in two minds about this crispy snack. They have expressed their shock at the existence of such a combination. But that’s not everyone. Some users have asked for the address of the place, too! One user thought that everything was fine until they fried the papads.
Another commenter mentions how they think that this recipe deserves a GI tag. A marker that indicates a product’s place of origin is called a Geographical Indication tag, or GI tag. This kind of intellectual property right safeguards the product’s reputation, quality, and other attributes.
