Instead of relying on the number of tourists in those cities, they made the decision based on social media coverage.

But, are these the only worthwhile cities for a great holiday? Titan Travel conducted a study and added the number of Instagram posts and TikTok views per city. To determine the ranking of each city, they also took into account the amount of change in Google search traffic over the past three years. These days, this is probably the most reliable way to gather data. Especially when it comes to popularity contests, nothing works better than social media.
To clarify, social media coverage doesn’t balance out with the actual number of people travelling to that destination. While Beijing might take over Paris by hosting more tourists, there might be a different city that people are aspiring to go to. These aspirations are generally based on the photoshopped images available on social media and travel websites. However, that is exactly what this list is based on.

The Most Popular City Break Destinations For 2023
Well then, let’s get to it. Surprisingly, the posh capital of the United Kingdom, London, made it to the top of the list. With more than 70 billion views on TikTok and over 107 million posts on Instagram, London has become the most popular city break destination. And at the top of the list was London. Surprise, surprise! The capital of the UK, a legendary tourism destination, was incredibly popular on social media, with over 107 million Instagram posts and over 70 billion TikTok views.
The most romantic city in the world, Paris, stood second on the list with more than 137 million Instagram tags and over 60 billion TikTok views under its belt. Third on this list is Barcelona, a city that saw a 336% surge in Google searches over a period of 3 years.
