Most of us take a plane or train for cross-country travel. But British man Luke Daekin, better known online as @chubbytrekka, decided to do something wildly different โ heโs walking from England to Vietnam. What started as a bold idea is now a full-blown real-time adventure. Luke began walking on 16 September 2024 from his hometown of Stratford-upon-Avon. Today, on Day 214, heโs headed to Bolu, Turkey, having already walked through nine countries.
The Route So Far: A Solo Trek From England to Vietnam
Lukeโs journey has taken him from the UK to France, Belgium, Luxembourg, Germany, Austria, Hungary, Serbia, and Bulgaria. From there, he entered Greece and has now crossed into Turkey.
His solo walk spans cities, mountains, farmlands, and everything in between. The aim? To keep going. No shortcuts, no public transport. Just walking. His current stretch through Turkey is expected to take about two months.

Once Turkey is behind him, Luke plans to cross into Georgia and Azerbaijan. From there, heโll take a ferry across the Caspian Sea into Kazakhstan. This is where the trek gets even tougher โ large stretches of land without food, water, or shelter.
Still, Luke plans to keep walking โ through Pakistan, Afghanistan, and India, facing unpredictable terrain and border bureaucracy. After that, heโll move through Bangladesh, Myanmar, Thailand, Cambodia, and eventually reach Vietnam. His final route will lead him from Ho Chi Minh City to Hanoi.

His mission โ walking from England to Vietnam โ is all about showing that with determination and grit, anything is possible.
