This Currency Museum Inside The Central Bank Of Abu Dhabi Should Be On Your Must-Visit List

While visiting the Central Bank, the exchange of money is all we have on our minds. However, some sets of notes and coins are turning to be popular with tourists. The UAE Currency Museum, inaugurated late in 2013 to commemorate the Central Bank’s 40th anniversary, settles on the ground floor of the Central Bank’s Abu Dhabi headquarters. The UAE Currency Museum showcases a diverse range of artefacts that predate the UAE’s union. You can also observe different paper bills and gold and silver coins, including ancient Indian rupees and Saudi and Qatari riyals through the glass panels.

This remarkable exhibit provides intriguing details on the establishment of the Dirham as the official national currency of the UAE in 1973. The museum also tells the story of the printing of the first series of bills in 1976.  It also discusses the history of money in this region.

If you love money then this place will fascinate you at another level. The printed notes and the metal coins were placed carefully to make the observation interesting. It will take you a maximum of 30 minutes to explore the museum. Absorbing the trading history of the UAE by just observing the types of currency makes it sound like a plan. And not just money but the machines related to them are present at this museum to observe. The showcase also features old cash-counting machines along with money-sorting machines.

But as mentioned above, the museum lies within the vicinity of the Central bank, where the minting machine is fully operational. So even if the entry is free you will have to take a prior appointment to enter.

The guards will guide you safely through the bank towards the museum.
