On the recent episode of Sunday Brunch, Kamiya Jani, our Editor-in-Chief, knocked on the doors of the Khurranas for a hearty brunch session along with fantastic conversations with the beautiful film director, writer and producer, Tahira Kashyap. The Punjabi kudi flaunted a lovely pink salwar suit with loose wavy hair, ready to be as Punjabi as she could be! While conversing, Tahira spoke about the sweet Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations at her home and how many modaks she ate.
Tahira Kashyap Ate Ukadiche Modak During Ganpati Celebrations
Ganesh Chaturthi in Mumbai is one of the year’s most vibrant and lively times! The 10-day celebration is filled with pandal hopping, attending aartis, dancing, good food, and more. To be in the City of Dreams during Ganesh Chaturthi is a blessing!
This year again, Tahira Kashyap and Ayushmann Khurrana celebrated Ganpati at their Andheri home. Tahira shared beautiful pictures from the festival on her Instagram account. The post also has a sweet video where she is seen making a cute Ganesh idol from clay. It is just so adorable!
Reflecting on the good times, Tahira revealed that she consumed nine ukadiche modak in a span of two days. She tried this steamed version of Modaks for the first time and fell in love with it. Then, she kept gorging on them day and night, and the count went to nine modaks.
On hearing this number, Kamiya assured our guest that it wasn’t a big deal. Jokingly Tahira mentioned that her cheeks resemble the adorable chubby cheeks of her Ganpati idol.

Who Initiated This Festival At Home?
The ‘Sharmajee Ki Beti’ director revealed that it was her daughter, Varushka Kashyap, who insisted they celebrate Ganesh Chaturthi at home, three years ago. At first, Tahira was sceptical about it as the festivities had already begun and they had visited their neighbours’ houses for darshan.
However, Varushka emphasised that there is no stern rule about celebrating Ganpati. Her mother caved and they made a cute and biodegradable Ganesh idol and celebrated this festival. Since then, it has become a tradition. A wholesome story indeed!
