When we speak of legendary cricketers in India, Yuvraj Singh is one name that we simply cannot miss, known for his iconic six sixes in six balls. He has had an illustrious trajectory in cricket. Now, after his retirement, he has found a new calling and has entered the world of food with his first restaurant, Koca, in Gurugram. On this episode of Sunday Brunch, our Editor-in-Chief, Kamiya Jani, met with him and his mother at this stunning restaurant and took a deep dive into Yuvraj Singh’s childhood stories, his love for food, his relationship with his parents, and a lot more. During this episode, Yuvraj Singh also revealed how he started playing cricket as a kid. Read on to learn all about it.

Yuvraj Singh Shared A Cherished Memory

Yuvraj Singh shared that when he was little, his father made him play cricket and practice daily. Curious, we asked Yuvraj Singh’s mother, Shabnam Singh, if Yuvraj would ever come to her and ask for help to get out of it. She revealed that Yuvraj never complained and, like a good boy, he would wake up every day at 6 AM and go for practice.

He added that while his father was harsh at times, it was his dream that his son would become a cricketer and live the dream he had envisioned for himself, and Yuvraj understood that. He accepted that he was pressured and it was okay because sometimes you have to do things you don’t want to — and that was the only reason he could play for India when he was just a little over 18 years old.

We asked Yuvraj Singh, since he started his career so early, what was that one point where he actually felt that he had achieved something. He revealed that after a tournament where he scored 84 runs against Australia, when he was coming home, both his parents — who had separated by then — came together to the airport to receive him.

It was a big moment for him, as it was his performance that could actually bring his parents together, at least for a meeting. And for a child, there is no better feeling than seeing the family together. He certainly cherishes that memory a lot.
