On a recent episode of Tere Gully Mein, our Editor-in-Chief, Kamiya Jani, met the talented actor Ali Fazal. We took him to some of the amazing Japanese restaurants in Mumbai, where he opened up about his life, career and more. Over some soupy ramen and delicious sushi, Ali shared something that truly shocked him when he first moved to Mumbai. Read on to learn what it was.
This Is What Surprised Ali Fazal
During the candid conversation, Kamiya asked him if he felt a difference when he first moved to Mumbai for college. Ali, a St. Xavier’s College alumnus, revealed what most surprised him. He said, “Ek toh dhoka pehle mila tha, kyuki Bambai me class 11th, 12th me log civil clothes pehenre hote hai and they call it college or tab mujhe itna gussa aaya, meko laga mere saath dhoka hua hai.” It was his first taste of Mumbai’s unique culture that took him completely by surprise.
Since the actor became a dad to a baby girl a few months back, Kamiya asked him about his plans related to her daughter’s education, and he was unsure about the education system in India. He pointed out that the lack of sex education is a major flaw in our country’s education system. He said, ”Hamare yaha sex education hoti hi nahi hai, and I think I had a very deep conversation with Gillian Anderson.” He believes that real change in the world will only begin when people start getting educated about it.

Where Does He Love To Work More?
The actor has made a strong impact in Bollywood with roles in Mirzapur, 3 Idiots, and more, while also leaving an indelible mark in Hollywood with films like Furious 7, Death on the Nile, and others. We asked him where he enjoys working more, to which he replied, “Mujhe toh har jagah maza aata hai, lekin mera dil jo hai wo yahi (Bollywood) pe atka hua hai, kyuki apni kahaniyaan hai yaha pe or mujhe sunane me bohot maza aata hai.”
He juggles his work between Hollywood and Bollywood, which at times leads to anxiety. In the midst of it all, managing the tasks in both industries becomes a constant battle he’s still trying to balance. Kamiya said that it feels like a good problem to have as he is working so hard. To which he replied, “I am not complaining, lekin kabhi kabar santulan hil jata hai, kyuki bich me fir personal life chut jati hai.”
