The living legend and Indian singer Asha Bhosle is known for her melodious voice. She can still enchant you with her sweet voice at the ripe old age of 91! Our Editor-in-Chief, Kamiya Jani, was honoured to sit beside Asha Ji at Asha’s, her Dubai restaurant, and chat with her about anything and everything. Why Does Asha Bhosle Don A Saree?
The ‘Pallu Latke’ singer is mostly seen wearing a simple and elegant saree. Whether it is for an award-function show, interviews or her concerts, she always dons a saree. Occasionally, a flower might be neatly tucked in her hair that perfectly complements the colour of her saree to complete the look. While conversing, Kamiya asked Asha ji about the reason behind always wearing a saree.
The singer told us that the saree as a garment is extremely graceful, which helps to conceal the curves of a woman. Secondly, the saree is seeped in the rich culture and history of India. Hence, she celebrates Indian culture by consistently wearing it. There is another crucial reason and this time, it is her son Anand!
Asha Ji shared with us how he showers her with endless compliments whenever she wears a saree. Anand even urges her to wear it every time because he never liked the way she looked in a salwar suit. She respects the way he looks at her with such grace and respect. Therefore, she stuck with these 6-yard sarees and never looked back!

Did She Even Wear Jeans Or Trousers?
Upon hearing how Anand encourages her to wear sarees, Kamiya wanted to dig deeper and asked if Asha ji ever wore jeans or pants, for that matter. Our guest told us that back in the day, during recordings, she preferred wearing sarees. So, any alternative attire was out of the question, let alone jeans.
She added that whenever she is abroad for vacation, she wants to switch to trousers as it’s better for travelling. It provides her with more comfort and ease. But Anand refuses to see her mother in anything but sarees! This is because he has a mental image of young Asha Ji donning a saree and flaunting a pretty smile. He doesn’t want to change this mental picture and refuses her to wear jeans.
