As mentioned above, Dubai Roads & Transport Authority (RTA) opened a new tunnel for cyclists in Dubai to ensure they have free and unrestricted movement along the Meydan cycling track. Spanning 160 metres in length and 6.6 metres in width, this new track can accommodate approximately 800 bicyclists per hour! Yes, the opening of this underpass comes at a time, when the RTA plans to transform Dubai into a bicycle-friendly city. So, in order to achieve this goal, there is a requirement for not only improving the infrastructure of the cycling tracks but also linking them with residential areas.

The New Tunnel Can Accommodate Approx 800 Bicyclists Per Hour
This project which includes enhancing the infrastructure of the Meydan Intersection also includes transforming the surface intersection of the cycling track. As a result, this new tunnel will reduce the waiting time for cyclists, thereby eliminating surface intersections. Not to mention, this will also serve cyclists by joining the development projects at Nad Al Sheba and Meydan communities along with the cyclist club. As it happens, RTA aims to increase the total length of cycling tracks in Dubai to a whopping 819 kilometres by the end of 2026. So, it’s worth mentioning that the design and construction of this tunnel have been carefully planned in adherence to the highest international standards, technical guidelines, and specifications.
