Madhav Tiger Reserve

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav opened the Madhav Tiger Reserve in Shivpuri district last week for the Chambal area. The newly opened reserve is the ninth in the state and the 58th in the country. On the occasion, a tigress was released into the reserve under an ambitious reintroduction programme. CM Yadav highlighted the significance of this development, crediting Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s conservation efforts for making Madhya Pradesh India’s leading tiger state.

The Chambal area, earlier devoid of tiger movement, now has this vacancy filled with the reintroduction of the grand species. Madhya Pradesh already has diverse wildlife like cheetahs in Kuno National Park and gharials in the Chambal River. The addition of tigers in Madhav Tiger Reserve further adds to the ecological importance of the area.

This tiger reserve is not just for tigers; there are leopards, deer, chinkaras, jackals, wolves, porcupines, and a few birds, such as vultures.

CM Yadav promised that during the development of the park, all species would be given priority to coexist together. Unlike a zoo, the reserve offers an open environment where animals can live in nature.

Increasing Tourism And Conservation Activities

Madhav Tiger Reserve is likely to give a tremendous boost to wildlife tourism in the Gwalior-Chambal area. The state government is determined to build the region into a big tourist destination, generate employment and create economic growth.

Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia thanked CM Yadav for this effort, stating that after Panna Tiger Reserve, this is the third national park in Madhya Pradesh to be revived. He added that with Kuno and Madhav Tiger Reserves occupying a total area of more than 3,000 square kilometres, the area will play a crucial role in wildlife conservation.

With its high biodiversity and government-supported conservation, Madhav Tiger Reserve will be a destination that wildlife enthusiasts cannot afford to miss.
