Goa-based Tinkesh Kaushik became the world’s first triple amputee to scale the Everest Base Camp! Carrying a six-kilogram backpack, Tinkesh scaled the base camp on prosthetic limbs and his story is truly one of the most inspiring ones you’ll hear. 30-year-old Tinkesh Kaushik became the world’s first triple amputee to reach the Mount Everest Base Camp. Nestled approximately 17,598 feet above sea level, reaching the base camp is no easy treat. One has to walk through difficult terrain and endure harsh weather conditions to reach here and Tinkesh was successfully able to do it all! He completed the challenging journey in eight days on May 11. He was wearing prosthetic limbs and carrying a six kg weight throughout the journey!

Talking to Times of India upon his arrival in Goa, he said, “I found trekking to be challenging. On the second day, I said that I have to do it. It’s a doable trek. In between, my health was bad, I suffered an acute mountain bout (sickness).”

He took to Instagram to post about becoming the “first Triple Amputee with 90% Locomotor disability” to scale the Everest Base Camp. Tinkesh even talked about his challenging experience and mentioned how reaching the Everest base was a “very emotional moment” for him. He also said how he was able to complete the trek because of his mental strength.

Tinkesh’s Journey & His Love For Adventure Sports

Tinkesh Kaushik was only 9 years old when he lost both limbs below the knee and a hand in an electrocution accident in Haryana. However, he overcame this disability with sheer willpower and grit! He worked on his health, got prosthetic limbs, and continued to live his life. A few years back, he moved to Goa and became a fitness coach. And now, successfully scaled the Everest Base Camp as a triple amputee!

Trekking the Everest Base Camp wasn’t Tinkesh’s first adventure sport. According to reports, this adventurous soul tried bungee jumping in Nepal in 2018 and even tried scuba diving in Puducherry!

Willpower and an attitude to never say never can really take you to greater heights! We salute Tinkesh’s grit and hope he continues to inspire people in his ways!
