Tired Of Booking Waitlisted Tickets? MMT’s New Feature Will Help You Through This Issue; Here’s How!

High demand, long queues at counters, last-minute cancellations, uncertainty of waitlists–securing a confirmed train seat in India can be a stressful ordeal! While the reserved train ticket window opens about 60 days ahead of departure, most travellers only finalise their plans much closer to the date. This often leads to booking waitlisted seats and ends up making travellers quite anxious. To help you with this, MakeMyTrip has launched a new feature – Seat Availability Forecast – and here’s all you need to know about it.

MakeMyTrip’s Seat Availability Forecast

According to MakeMyTrip’s data, nearly 40% of travel travellers book train tickets across multiple sessions, often over several days. By the time they’re ready to book, nearly 70% end up with waitlisted tickets. Why? Simply because all the confirmed seats are already gone!

They found that, in April, most high-speed trains were sold out around 13 days before the departure date. By May, due to the holiday season and rising demand, the trains were typically booked out more than 20 days before departure. Mostly, travellers don’t have a reliable sense of how long seats will remain available and this makes timely planning harder.

With MakeMyTrip’s Seat Availability Forecast, train travellers will be able to plan their trips better. This is because the new feature provides a predictive view of when seats on a selected train are likely to sell out. So, people will know when they should book and finalise their travel plans.

All You Need To Know About This Feature

According to the press release, MakeMyTrip’s Seat Availability Forecast uses smart tech that blends years of booking history with real-time demand trends. This new feature allows travellers to book with more confidence and clarity by showing how likely they are to get a confirmed seat. It is now live on both the MakeMyTrip app and website.

If you’re not ready to book immediately, MakeMyTrip also has ‘Sold-out Alerts’. This feature prompts timely action as seat availability begins to drop. Once activated, it notifies users when tickets on their selected train fall below a defined threshold. This allows you to book before confirmed seats run out. Together, these two features add another layer of visibility and control to the planning experience.
