Air India has cancelled all of its flights to and from New York and Newark on January 25 and 26 due to a powerful winter storm that is predicted to impact a large area of the United States. The airline issued a travel advisory to alert passengers and ensure their safety due to the worsening weather.
Air India Cancels New York And Newark Flights
The announcement was made on X (formerly Twitter), where Air India said heavy snowfall and extreme weather are expected across New York, New Jersey, and nearby regions from early Sunday through Monday. These conditions are likely to disrupt airport operations and make flying unsafe.
In its statement, Air India said the decision was taken keeping the safety, well-being, and convenience of passengers and crew in mind. The airline confirmed that all flights operating between India and New York/Newark will remain cancelled for two days. It also assured passengers that its teams are ready to help those affected by the cancellations.
Travellers who were scheduled to fly on these dates are advised to contact Air India’s 24×7 call centres or check updates on the airline’s official website before making any travel plans.

Severe Weather Across US East Coast
The cancellations come as the United States prepares for what officials are calling a major winter storm. According to reports by CNN via NDTV, the storm is expected to stretch across 2,000 miles, from Texas to New England. It can affect nearly two-thirds of the US population, bringing heavy snow, freezing rain, and dangerous ice buildup
Even before the storm fully arrives, thousands of flights have already been cancelled across the country. Road travel in many regions is expected to be extremely difficult, with authorities warning people to avoid unnecessary movement. At least 15 states, including New York, New Jersey, Texas, Virginia, and North Carolina, have declared a state of emergency to prepare emergency services and mobilise resources, NDTV reported.
Weather forecasts suggest that more than half of Americans could experience subzero wind chills in the coming days, making this one of the most severe winter events of the season.
If you’re flying with Air India to or from New York or Newark, check your flight status regularly, contact the airline’s customer support for rebooking or assistance, and avoid heading to the airport without confirmation
With extreme weather expected to continue, passengers are advised to stay updated and plan their travel carefully.
