Believe it or not, the toilet can be a great source of creative inspiration! As you sit on your “throne” going about your business, a eureka moment might strike or a sense of peaceful me-time might envelope you. But imagine taking things too far, where the loo may end up becoming your nest! Welcome to The Netty, Britain’s tiniest hotel, which is actually located in a restored 19th-century Victorian public toilet!
The Netty Is UK’s Tiniest Hotel Built In A Victorian Public Toilet
The Netty is anything but an ordinary stay! The tiniest hotel in the UK is flushed with attention as it holds within it a Victorian secret. Tucked beneath Oxford’s streets, this stay was once a Victorian public toilet. Built in 1895, the gentlemen’s conveniences were shut down in 2008 due to safety concerns. Oxford entrepreneur Gwyn Harries-Jones later purchased the historic property to revamp this into an abode that piqued the interests of its visitors and tourists alike.
Despite being sold to the entrepreneur, it remained vacant for 11 years before it finally became a tiny hotel. Step into The Netty, and you’ll be taken aback by the rich textures, vintage pieces and the Victorian-themed architecture. The heritage-themed stay signals to the time flown by through layered contemporary interiors that balance character with comfort. High gloss ceiling catches the eye, while warm sunlight filters through the pavement glass.

Two Suites With Stunning Design Languages & Touch Of Luxury
It’s a cocoon that beckons you to take things slow, a story that you’re now part of. The boutique establishment built in a Victorian lavatory has two suites of 30 square metres each. Suite One comes with masculine elegance, strong geometries and darker finishes. There are subtle nods to the building’s past as a Victorian loo, but the luxurious abode displays elegance in every element. A walk-in rainfall shower, a king bed and mini bar with complimentary refreshments are amenities for guests.
Suite Two boasts a more feminine and softer design elegance. Light tones, graceful forms and finishing add to the calm interiors. There’s a botanical beauty of historic times that lends the space a serene yet luxurious vibe. While both rooms come with different design senses, the amenities remain the same. Moreover, the suites are not wheelchair accessible, but they can be accessed via a staircase.
There’s an unmissable yet amusing historic tale behind The Netty, but perhaps that’s exactly what adds to its allure!
