France Under Red Alert Amid 40°C Temp & Heatwaves: Is It Safe To Travel To France?

A powerful heatwave is sweeping across Europe, with temperatures rising close to 40°C. The heat conditions have severely impacted one-third of France, which is now under a red alert as the risk of heatstroke and dehydration rises. According to The Economic Times, about a third of France is under the national weather service’s red heat alert. Temperatures are expected to reach 40°C in some parts of the country. The French government has also put emergency services and military forces on wildfire alert. Additionally, alcohol consumption and outdoor sports have been restricted to keep people safe from the scorching weather.

Reportedly, the Eiffel Tower and other Paris attractions are setting up misting stations to cool crowds and minimise risks. You should be aware that heatwaves are not just uncomfortable, but they can also cause heat exhaustion, heatstroke, dehydration and other health complications.

And yes, during the peak afternoon heat, try to spend your day indoors and visit tourist spots only when the weather feels a little better. Avoid alcohol and sugary drinks, which can increase dehydration, and keep an eye on elderly family members and children.
