9 Kuwaiti Planes Made Emergency Landings In Iraq, Here’s The Reason Why!

Recently, nine Kuwaiti aircraft had to make an emergency landing in Iraq. This incident occurred on Sunday, November 9th, due to heavy fog over Kuwait. This had seriously reduced the visibility, forcing these emergency landings at the Basra International Airport in Iraq. Here’s all you need to know about what happened.

9 Kuwaiti Aircraft Make Emergency Landings In Iraq

As mentioned in a report by the Gulf News, nine Kuwaiti aircraft had to make emergency landings in Iraq. This happened due to reduced visibility over Kuwait. The report mentioned the Iraq Airport Authority, which had reported this event. It was mentioned how the diversion took place under the ‘Second Freedom of the Air’. This allows aircraft to land for technical or safety reasons without there being prior permission. At this point, it’s worth mentioning that all the planes had landed safely without any incident.

Why Did The Incident Occur?

It should be noted that dense fog had blanketed Southern Basra, which is the coastline of Kuwait and Iran’s Ahvaz region. As a result, there was a significant drop in horizontal visibility, and normal air traffic was therefore affected in the area. As mentioned by the Iraqi Airport Authority in the same report, airports had been fully prepared for handling both scheduled and unscheduled flights across the nation.

It was also revealed that the nine aircraft had been received smoothly along with regular flights. It was emphasised by the administration that it continues to remain ready to accommodate any emergency flights so that there is passenger safety and air traffic remains uninterrupted.

Not An Isolated Incident

This case of Kuwaiti aircraft making emergency landings comes weeks after a Qatar Airways flight, which was bound for Hong Kong, had to make an emergency landing at Ahmedabad’s Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport. So, it must also be mentioned that an emergency landing is not something to be immediately worried about. After all, it’s often undertaken to avoid any undue circumstances and for the safety of passengers.
