Navi Mumbai International Airport is now inching closer towards becoming fully operational. The airport recently completed its first full-scale integrated passenger trial with hundreds of simulated travellers. The airport shared this update on its X account and wrote that they are now preparing to launch commercial flights from December 2025. Here is everything you need to know.

Navi Mumbai International Airport announced that its Operational Readiness and Airport Transfer (ORAT) team has successfully completed its first full-scale passenger trials. Hundreds of volunteers took part in the trials. The trials covered everything needed to test airport operations before the official launch of regular flights from December 2025.
The simulation included check-in trials with IndiGo, Akasa Air, and Air India Express. It also covered security checks, boarding, and baggage reclaim. Every step was tested by the authorities with the help of their volunteers, or their “first passengers”. Navi Mumbai International Airport also thanked the team for a successful trial and wrote, “A huge thank you to our “first passengers,” CISF, L&T, our airline partners, and the entire NMIAL team for making this milestone possible.”

NMIA To Become India’s Largest Greenfield Airport
According to a report by News18 India, the airport was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on October 8. It is being built at a cost of ₹19,650 crore. Once fully operational, NMIA is expected to become India’s largest greenfield airport. This new airport will also ease the high passenger load on Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA).
