“Take Her With You,” BTS ARMY Helps Mom Honour Late Daughter By Carrying Pebbles To Concerts

BTS holds a special place in the lives of millions of fans around the world. Over the years, the Bangtan Sonyeondan boys have encouraged ARMY to love themselves, be kinder to themselves and find comfort in their music through some of life’s toughest moments. For Abby Elder, a devoted BTS fan, the group meant all this and more. Sadly, she never got the chance to see her favourite artists perform live before she died by suicide at the age of 20. Understanding just how much BTS meant to her daughter, Abby’s mother decided to honour her memory through a special project, and once again, the global BTS ARMY came together to make it even more meaningful.

Abby’s Pebbles: Taking Her To Places She Couldn’t Go!

For one mother, BTS’ ongoing Arirang world tour has become a way to keep her late daughter’s memory alive. Jamie Elder’s daughter, Abby, was a huge BTS fan and had been looking forward to seeing the group after their military service. Sadly, she died in 2024 at the age of 20, before she could attend a concert.

After Abby’s death, her mother began looking for little ways to honour her daughter and help others remember her. At her funeral, she gave guests blue howlite, a turquoise-coloured gemstone that Abby loved, asking them to carry the pebbles to places Abby never got to visit. This eventually grew into a Facebook page called “Abby’s Pebbles”, where people began sharing photos and stories of the places they had taken them.

When BTS announced its world tour this year, Jamie had an idea — if Abby couldn’t make it to a BTS concert, perhaps fans could take her there. She reached out to BTS ARMY on social media, asking fans attending the shows if they could take one of Abby’s pebbles with them and share her story.

Speaking to ABC News, Jamie said she and Abby often spoke about the members’ individual personalities and why Abby felt such a strong connection with them. She also noted that BTS’ openness and honesty about who they are have helped many fans feel a similar bond with the group.

BTS ARMY Helps Mom Honour Late Daughter

The BTS ARMY came though, of course! What started with one concert in Las Vegas quickly turned into something much bigger. Fans from across the world began helping Jamie distribute thousands of small freebies, including crocheted butterflies, fan art, stickers, photo cards and Abby’s signature blue pebbles. Each card carried a simple message: “Take her with you.”

For fans who received one, the story has been deeply emotional. Canadian BTS ARMY member Tatyana Montero received one of the freebies in Las Vegas but only noticed it a month later. After learning Abby’s story, she contacted Jamie and shared photos of the pebble at the concert, showing that Abby had, in a way, finally made it to the BTS show she had been waiting for.

ABC News revealed that Jamie and her three other children eventually managed to attend BTS’ Las Vegas concert themselves, where they handed out the freebies to fans. Since then, Abby’s Pebbles have travelled to BTS shows across the US and Europe, including concerts in Paris, London and Brussels, with thousands more making their way to upcoming shows.

Thank you, BTS ARMY! With that little blue pebble, Abby is now travelling farther than she ever imagined and finally getting to see the world alongside the BTS she loved.
