A comprehensive set of travel regulations was issued for passengers who are entering and leaving the UAE. This was to ensure there is safety, compliance, and smooth customs procedures. As revealed in a report by the Gulf News, these were issued by the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs, and Port Security. And they stress the importance of declaring, valuables, and restricted items.
ICP Issues Guidelines For Travellers Entering & Leaving The Country
As revealed in the news report by the Gulf News, the guidelines have stressed that it is important to follow them to avoid penalties and ensure there is security across the country’s ports. Also, this is in line with the unified customs law of the GCC. So, travellers carrying more than AED60,000 or its equivalent in any other currency, which is in cash, precious metals, valuable stones, or bearer negotiable instruments, must declare these items. They must be declared using the official disclosure form. Additionally, the rule applies to both arrivals and departures. If someone fails to declare such amounts, they cannot only be confiscation, but also face legal penalties.
What About Personal Gifts?
However, for personal belongings and gifts, the customs law allows exemption within defined limits. The total value of the accompanying gift should not exceed AED3,000. Additionally, the items must be personal, non-commercial, and in reasonable quantities. If someone is a frequent traveller or an individual who trades in similar goods, they are not eligible for this exemption.
Rules Regarding Tobacco Products
Tobacco products also have quantity limits, as mentioned in the same report. Yes, the quantity limit is up to 200 cigarettes or an equivalent amount of pipe tobacco or shisha. Excess quantities will be subject to customs duties. However, there is a list of prohibited goods as well. These include items which cannot be brought inside or taken out of the UAE under any circumstances. The list includes narcotics, nylon fishing nets, gambling devices, counterfeit currency, raw ivory, used or retreaded tyres, red-beam laser pens, or radioactive material. Printed or visual materials that violate religious values or public morality are also included in the list.
At this point, it should be noted that some restricted items can be allowed only after obtaining prior approval. These approvals must be obtained from relevant authorities. So, make sure to be aware of these rules and regulations while entering or leaving the country to avoid any complications.
