Are you travelling to India from any of the G20 countries? If so, get ready to avail of UPI payments. Recently, the Reserve Bank of India declared that travellers coming to India from a G20 country will be able to link their Prepaid Payment Instruments wallets to Unified Payments Interface (UPI). International travellers will be able to make UPi payments to 5 crore merchant outlets all over India.
However, it was also stated that this option will be made accessible only at selected airports in various cities including Mumbai, Bengaluru, and New Delhi International airports.
UPI Payments For International Travellers
At the beginning of this month itself, RBI also announced the allowance of UPI usage for NRIs while visiting the country as well as for foreign nationals.
The official announcement in this respect stated that people coming from G20 countries to India, specifically at airports of New Delhi, Bengaluru and Mumbai, will be offered this facility.
In case you’re wondering what G20 is, it is an intergovernmental forum of the biggest developing or developed economies. It can also be called a Group of 20.
Countries like Australia, Canada, Brazil, Argentina, France, India, China, Germany, Japan, Russia, Indonesia, the Republic of Korea, Italy, Mexico, the US, the UK, Turkey, the European Union, Saudi Arabia and South Africa are a part of this Group of 20 economies.

PPI Wallets Will Be Issued For International Travellers
All the travellers who will be eligible to avail of this feature will be provided with Prepaid Payment Instruments wallets. This PPI wallet will further be linked to UPI. This will enable them to make UPI payments at merchant outlets.
In their statement, RBI also declared that this facility could be availed by delegates from G20 countries as well. They will be able to make use of it at meeting venues.
Non-bank PPI issuers like Transcript International Limited and Pine Labs Private Limited will be responsible for issuing UPI-linked wallets. Among banks issuing UPI-linked wallets, ICICI and IDFC are included.
As per the statement issued by the Reserve Bank of India, travellers coming to India from G20 countries will now be able to enjoy the ease of using UPI for making payments. They will be able to avail of this feature at 5 crore outlets all over the country. Of course, the outlet must have the means to accept online payment via QR codes.
