Rajasthan Extends Section 144 Till May 21 To Curb Rising Covid Cases In The State

Since COVID-19 is now spreading at a rapid rate, Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has announced a 15-day lockdown in the state from April 19 to May 3, 2021. The government has termed this lockdown as ‘Jan Anushasan Pakhwada’, meaning ‘public discipline fortnight.’ The fresh curbs include the closure of offices and markets till May 3. Rajasthan has reported over 10,000 new cases, taking the coronavirus tally in the state to around 4,15,000. The state has reported around 3151 fatalities so far. On April 20, the Ashok Gehlot government ordered Section 14 of the CrPC to be imposed in the state from April 22 to May 21. Section 144 prohibits the assembly of five or more people in an area. Infact, violators can be booked for unlawful assembly charges.

Offices And Markets To Remain Shut; Only 50 Guests Can Attend Weddings

The Rajasthan government has issued new rules for the 15-day lockdown or ‘Jan Anushasan Pakhwada’ till May 3 to combat the spread of COVID-19. The rules are as follows:

1. Offices and markets will remain closed. Only those offices and shops providing essential items can remain open.

2. Sale of vegetables and fruits will be permitted till 7 PM.

3. Restaurants, sweet shops and processed food suppliers can carry out home delivery till 8 PM.

4. Vendors can distribute newspapers between 4 AM to 8 AM.

5. Only 50 guests can attend weddings, private functions and other social gatherings.

6.  Funerals can have a maximum of 20 attendees.

7. Cinema halls and amusement parks will remain closed.

8. Coaching institutes will remain closed.

7. People entering Rajasthan need to show RT-PCR negative report not older than 72 hours prior to travel.

Earlier, Rajasthan had imposed a 12-hour strict night curfew from 6 PM to 5 AM in all cities. This curfew started on April 16.

Rajasthan Imposes Strict Daily Curfew In All Cities

In order to grapple with the rise in Covid cases amid the second wave, Rajasthan imposed a strict daily curfew in all cities. Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot had said in a meeting that people are getting negligent about the COVID-19 protocols and it is a matter of serious concern. He had instructed on conducting campaigns again to create awareness about the virus.
