A disturbing incident came to light at Salt Lake City International Airport on Wednesday, October 1. A drunk passenger was arrested after she physically assaulted multiple people and sexually attacked a Delta Air Lines (a major US airline) employee. Here’s what led to the arrest.
Drunk Passengers Sexually Assault A Delta Air Lines Worker
The trouble began after a drunk woman named Cody Sierra Marie Bryne, aged 31, boarded a Delta flight from Salt Lake City, Utah, to Portland, Oregon. As per a report by Hindustan Times, she refused to move from the aisle despite being told several times by flight attendants. When she finally moved, she slammed her shoulder into a Delta employee and pushed her backwards into a seat.
The pilot then ordered Cody Sierra Marie Bryne to leave the aircraft. As she was escorted off, the woman allegedly tried to enter a secure area, grabbed another female employee by the neck, and pulled her hair. She reportedly then grabbed the employee’s breast, squeezed it, and uttered threats. Cody then ran toward the exit before attempting to book another flight with a different airline. However, officers caught up with her and arrested her soon after and took her into custody for questioning.
Woman Found Intoxicated During Questioning
As per the same report, during questioning, Cody Sierra Marie Bryne denied touching any Delta workers or attacking anyone. But police noted that she smelt strongly of alcohol and struggled to follow directions. She also needed assistance while walking, suggesting that the passenger was heavily intoxicated. She later admitted to drinking earlier that morning.
The woman remains in custody and faces charges of sexual battery, assault, and public intoxication. As per a report by NDTV, she could also face a potential fine of up to $37,000 (₹32,84,712 approx.) for interfering with flight crews. Delta Air Lines issued a statement regarding the incident with the drunk passenger, saying the safety and security of its customers and staff remain their highest priority. They further added that the airline is fully cooperating with the investigation.
The incident on Wednesday was indeed disturbing. The Salt Lake City Police have not yet released additional details about the case. The passenger remains in custody as investigations are currently underway. Authorities are now awaiting further details.
