If you’re planning a holiday or travel frequently, then we have some news for you! Following a recent hike in aviation turbine fuel (ATF) prices, IndiGo has announced another increase in airfares. The new fuel surcharge, introduced on Wednesday, is set to impact both your travel plans and your wallet.
Amid ATF Hike, IndiGo Flights Get Costlier
Due to a global surge in fuel prices, the Centre has raised ATF rates, nearly doubling them for international and chartered flights, while capping the increase at around 8.5% for domestic routes. Despite this, IndiGo has hiked its fuel surcharge to up to ₹950 on domestic flights and as much as ₹10,000 on international routes, especially to Europe.
According to Hindustan Times, the fuel surcharge ranges from ₹275 to ₹950 for domestic flights and ₹900 to ₹10,000 for international routes. The highest surcharge, ₹10,000, applies to destinations in the UK and Europe, excluding Greece and Turkey.
The airline added that the revised fares will apply to bookings made after 1 AM on Thursday. In a statement, the airline said, “IndiGo has also re-calibrated its domestic Fuel Charge to vary by different travel distances. All domestic bookings made from 0001 hrs on 02 April 2026 will include the following revised fuel charges per sector.”

Here’s How Much You’ll Have To Pay Now
It is to be noted that fuel makes up around 40% of an airline’s operating cost. On March 14, IndiGo started levying fuel charges ranging from ₹425 to ₹2,300 on domestic and international flight tickets, as the fuel prices surged due to West Asia conflict.
Now, instead of a flat ₹425 fuel charge for all domestic passengers, the airline has now rationalised surcharges to range between ₹275 and ₹950 based on distance, easing costs for shorter routes. International routes, however, have taken a bigger hit. Under the revised structure, fuel surcharges go up to ₹10,000 for long-haul destinations such as Europe, reflecting the sharp rise in ATF prices for international operations.
