Amid the ongoing West Asia conflict and a nationwide fuel crisis, India’s leading airline IndiGo, has announced a fuel surcharge on fares. Starting March 14, IndiGo will impose a fuel surcharge of up to ₹2300 on its flight tickets. This news comes after Air India announced a fuel fee on Air India and Air India Express flights.

When Will IndiGo Fuel Surcharge Apply?

IndiGo has introduced a fuel surcharge on both its domestic and international routes. This will be effective from March 14, 2026 from 00:01 hours. In an official statement, the airline announced that the measure was taken due to a rise in fuel prices due to the geopolitical issues in the Middle East.

Moreover, the airline revealed that the IATA’s Jet Fuel Monitor recorded an 85+% rise in fuel prices for the entire region. Airlines’ across the world and in India have seen a rise in price due to the significant increase in Aviation Turbine Fuel prices amid its shortage.

IndiGo indicated that this will impact every airline’s costs and networks, including IndiGo. The airline revealed in its statement that it has introduced a relatively smaller amount as Fuel Charge instead of substantially adjusting the fare. A move keeping in mind the consequential financial burden on its customers.

All bookings for flights done post March 14, 2026, 00:01 hours, will include an additional Fuel Charge, per sector.

What Will Be The Fuel Charge For Different Routes?

In its official statement, IndiGo announced the new fuel surcharges imposed on different routes.

  • Within Domestic India- ₹425
  • Indian Subcontinent- ₹425
  • Middle East- ₹900
  • South East Asia and China- ₹1800
  • Africa and West Asia- ₹1800
  • Europe- ₹2300

For domestic flights and those booked within the Indian subcontinent, customers need to pay a fuel surcharge of ₹425. IndiGo flights booked to Middle East destinations, the fuel charge amounts to ₹900. Flights booked to Africa, West Asia, South East Asia and China regions, customers will be set off by ₹1800. Finally, for Europe region, the fuel surcharge amounts to ₹2300.

The airline ended the note expressing regret for the additional charge and reiterated that it has been driven by the current and sudden geopolitical situation. Moreover, it assured customers that adjustments will be made whenever required.
