One of the best aspects of Indian weddings is the blend of vibrant rituals and the fun that accompanies them. While grumpy phoopas and picky relatives are part and parcel of any wedding, a desi celebration in Chicago took things up a notch–in the most fun way! During the traditional joota chupai ceremony, an Italian uncle took matters into his own hands. He turned it into a full-blown live auction, and the internet is absolutely loving the hilarious twist he added to this beloved wedding ritual.

When Desi Rituals Meet Italian Jest

A Chicago-based Indian Wedding DJ, Chirag Gandhi (@dj_realest), shared a hilarious video on his Instagram page, where an Italian man can be seen turning the traditional joota chupai ceremony into a full-blown live auction. The cultural tradition got a hilarious twist, and a playful negotiation unfolded, with Uncle Richie taking a lead.

The caption of the video said, “Joota Chupai meets Italian Uncle Richie… and this man turned the whole thing into a LIVE AUCTION.’ The wedding took place at Victoria In The Park, near Chicago, and the wedding attendees actively took part in the fun twist to the desi tradition.

“My cousin just reminded me that my father and grandfather used to have an auction house. So, we can most definitely start an auction with this shoe…how about that?” he said before proceeding to stand on a chair on the stage.
