“Introvert-Friendly System,” Creator In Awe Of Helsinki Airport’s Fully Automated System

Helsinki Airport

As introverts, we understand the struggle of small talk and how challenging it can be to navigate places like airports, where interaction is often required at every step. But did you know there’s an airport in Finland that feels like a dream come true for introverts? We’re talking about Helsinki Airport, which features extensive self-service technology and minimal human interaction.

Inside Finland’s Helsinki Airport

Digital creator Eshita Mann took to Instagram to share a video showcasing Helsinki Airport’s fully automated system in Finland, which operates with next-to-no human interaction. In the video titled “Airport par 0 human interaction?”, she explains that machines are more cost-effective than human employees in Finland, which is why the airport has developed a highly automated, hassle-free ecosystem for a more efficient travel experience.

She further explains that travellers are required to tag their own bags. For everything that follows, they can simply scan a QR code or their boarding pass and drop off their luggage independently. She noted that there is hardly any staff available to assist, except for a single counter at the end for support in case of issues such as excess baggage or difficulty completing the process. Otherwise, the entire system operates in a fully automated manner.

It is Finland’s main international gateway and one of the most efficient airports in Europe. Primarily, it is recognised for its seamless passenger experience and strong emphasis on automation.

With its Scandinavian design, the airport is minimalist, quiet, and compact, making navigation easy. Its smart layout also ensures some of the shortest transfer times in Europe, making it a popular stopover for travellers flying between Europe and Asia.
