Seattle Gets A Life-Size Swami Vivekananda Statue

Seattle’s skyline has a new icon: Swami Vivekananda, a renowned Indian Hindu monk, philosopher, and spiritual leader. The news was announced on the official X account of the Consulate General of India, Seattle (@IndiainSeattle). It’s an amazing update indeed. The City of Seattle in the USA has now become the first city government to host the Swami Vivekananda monument in the heart of downtown Seattle.

According to The Times of India, the life-size bronze statue was installed at the busy Westlake Square. The unveiling was done by Seattle Mayor Katie Wilson and Consulate General of India in Seattle, Prakash Gupta. Moreover, the ceremony was also attended by several dignitaries from the Greater Seattle area, along with community leaders from the Indian-American diaspora.

Statue Symbolises Strong Ties Between India And Seattle

According to Mathrubhumi, the life-size Swami Vivekananda statue is sculpted by Indian artist Naresh Kumar Kumawat. It has been gifted to the City of Seattle by the Indian Council for Cultural Relations as a gesture to recognise the city’s inclusivity. Moreover, the installation of this monument also reflects the deep cultural links the city shares with India.
