Vlogger and YouTuber Ruhez Amrelia (@realruhezamrelia) took to social media to claim that his brother-in-law was initially denied entry to Gauri Khan’s Torii because he was wearing chappals. Sharing the incident, Ruhez said he had a “very strange experience” at the Bandra restaurant.
According to the video, Ruhez, his friend, and his brother-in-law decided to stop by Torii for a meal while passing through Bandra. He claimed the trio had already entered the restaurant when the staff noticed their footwear. While Ruhez and his friend were wearing shoes, his brother-in-law had opted for chappals because of the rainy season.

The staff then informed them, “Sir, chappal mein allowed nahi hai,” explaining that it was part of the restaurant’s dress code policy. While Ruhez acknowledged that many restaurants have their own dress codes, he argued that establishments should also be considerate of guests, especially during the monsoon.
He further shared that although they could have easily dined elsewhere, he chose to question the policy. According to Ruhez, he told the staff that while he respected the restaurant’s rules, singling someone out over their footwear could come across as discriminatory and leave the person feeling embarrassed or humiliated.

According to the vlogger, wearing chappals doesn’t reflect a person’s financial status and, during the monsoon, many people choose them for comfort. He felt restaurants should take such situations into consideration.
After discussing the matter with their seniors, the staff eventually allowed the trio inside. Ruhez also asked whether the dress code was displayed anywhere at the restaurant. While the staff claimed it was mentioned on the restaurant’s website and Zomato, the vlogger said he couldn’t find it on either platform.
The post has since garnered over 637K views and hundreds of comments, leaving the internet divided. While many sided with Ruhez, arguing that restaurants should be more considerate about footwear during the monsoon, others pointed out that dress code policies are common at many restaurants and that Torii was simply enforcing its rules.
