Time Out has revealed its annual rankings for the ’50 Best Cities in the World’ list. The rankings are based on a readers’ survey that asked residents about factors like affordability, food, quality of life, nightlife, and more. As per a report by Euronews, more than 24,000 people from across 150 cities participated in the survey this year. Their responses were used to compile the final list of the 50 best cities in the world.
Melbourne in Australia has taken the top spot on the list this year, a city known for its vibrant laneways and culture. Shanghai in China secured the second position, followed by Edinburgh in third place and London in fourth.

The top ten cities are rounded out by New York at fifth, Cape Town at sixth, and Mexico City at seventh place, with Bangkok being eighth, Seoul at ninth, and Tokyo at tenth.
Best European Cities In 2026
Out of 50, 19 European cities made it on the coveted list this year. With Edinburgh being in the top two, the city is known for its food, culture, and historic, hilly architecture. As per a report by Time Out, Edinburgh is one of the happiest cities surveyed for 2026, with 91% of people finding joy in their everyday experiences there.
European cities dominated the list between 11th and 20th place, with cities like Copenhagen at 13th, Krakow at 16th, Porto at 17th, Madrid at 19th, and Valencia at 20th. Here is the full list of the best 50 cities in the world.
