Several names of the existing metro stations in Delhi have been revised. The State Names Authority, headed by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, has now changed the names of nine metro stations. Scroll down to know why this decision was taken and what the new names of these nine metro stations are.
Delhi Changes Names Of Nine Metro Stations
Delhi Metro commuters, this is something important if you travel on the metro frequently. Learning the changed names of nine metro stations will help avoid confusion in the future. According to a report by The Times of India, the State Names Authority had previously considered renaming 21 metro stations in Delhi. However, authorities decided to retain 12 names, modify seven, and rename just two.
Reportedly, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta finalised the names of these metro stations in line with public sentiments and local identities. Here are the seven modified names:
- Prashant Vihar is now Uttari Pitampura-Prashant Vihar.
- Jagatpur is now Jagatpur-Wazirabad.
- Derawal Nagar is now Nanak Pyau-Derawal Nagar.
- Khanpur is now Khanpur-Vayusainabad.
- Sonia Vihar is now Nanksar-Sonia Vihar.
- Mayur Vihar Pocket 1 is now Shri Ram Mandir Mayur Vihar.
- West Enclave is now Mangolpur Kalan-West Enclave.
Apart from these seven modified names, authorities have renamed North Pitampura as Haiderpur Village, and Pitampura as Madhuban Chowk.

These Metro Station Names Remain Unchanged
According to a report by The Times of India, the names retained as originally proposed in the detailed project reports are Majlis Park, Bhalaswa, Haiderpur Badli Mor, Deepali Chowk, Yamuna Vihar, Bhajanpura, Khajuri Khas, Soorghat, Jharoda Majra, Burari, Pushpanjali and Maujpur-Babarpur.
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta believes that these metro stations are not just transit points for commuters. These stations also reflect the identity and cultural significance of the areas they serve. The authorities also received recommendations from local public representatives and citizens before they finalised these nine names.
