The visionary architect behind Barcelona’s famous Sagrada Família basilica, Antoni Gaudí, died in 1926 after being hit by a tram. Now, exactly 100 years after his death, Pope Leo XIV travelled to the iconic church to celebrate a memorable Mass and inaugurate the Tower of Jesus Christ, which makes the Sagrada Família the tallest church in the world.
As per a report by CNN, Gaudí was aware that his masterpiece would not be completed during his lifetime. The inauguration of the new tower marks a major milestone in the basilica’s 144-year journey towards completion. Today, the Sagrada Família draws millions of visitors every year and is still one of Spain’s most visited landmarks. During the ceremony, Pope Leo XIV visited Gaudí’s tomb inside the church and later prayed over the newly completed tower.
