A devastating fire and series of explosions rocked the Bhopura Chowk area of Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh. A lorry carrying LPG cylinders caught fire in the wee hours of the morning of Saturday, February 1, 2025. The incident, which occurred on the Delhi-Wazirabad Road in the Thana Teela Mod district, began around 3:30 am and prompted an immediate emergency response. Here are all of the other important details that you would need to know about this particular harrowing incident.
Truck In Ghaziabad Loaded With Gas Cylinders Catches Fire
Chief Fire Officer Rahul Pal reported that fire crews were initially hampered in their approach due to continuous explosions from the gas cylinders. According to an article that was recently published by the Hindustan Times or HT, the blasts were quite severe.
The severity of the blasts was such that they could be heard several kilometres away. This caused widespread panic among local residents. Police evacuated nearby houses as a precautionary measure whilst firefighters worked to contain the blaze.
The impact of the explosions caused significant damage to the surrounding area. A local resident described how his family was awakened by the blasts and forced to evacuate their home. His property sustained considerable damage, including shattered car windows, broken terrace grills, and damaged shop shutters.
No Injuries Reported In The Incident Fortunately
The explosions were so powerful that some cylinders were launched into the air, landing on nearby buildings. A wooden warehouse, several houses, and a hotel in the vicinity also suffered damage, with the hotel’s mirrors completely destroyed by the blast impact.
Fortunately, despite the scale of the incident, no casualties or injuries were reported. Fire authorities successfully extinguished the blaze, though the cause remains under investigation. The incident follows two smaller fires earlier in the month in Prayagraj, including one involving cooking gas cylinders and another affecting 15 unauthorised tents at Chatnag Ghat.
The incident has highlighted concerns about the transportation and storage of LPG cylinders in densely populated areas, prompting discussions about safety protocols and emergency response procedures in the region.
