Turkey-Bound Azimuth Airlines Flight Catches Fire After Landing; Cause Of The Fire Not Known Yet

The engine of an Azimuth Airlines flight caught fire after landing at Antalya Airport in Turkey. During the incident, the flight was carrying 95 people, including six crew members. Fortunately, they were all safely evacuated. The reason for the fire is not known yet.

Azimuth Airlines’ Sukhoi Superjet 100 type aircraft caught fire upon landing at Turkey’s Antalya Airport on Sunday. According to NDTV, the flight took off from Sochi in Russia and landed in Antalya, where it caught fire after landing. The plane was carrying 89 passengers and six crew members.

A video circulating on social media captured emergency units reaching the site of the fire. You can see flames and smoke coming out of the aircraft’s engine in the video. As per reports, the pilot made an emergency call after the aircraft landed at 9:34 PM (local time). The airport rescue and firefighting crews quickly responded and extinguished the fire.

As per Airport Haber, an aviation news website, the flames were coming out from the left side of the plane as emergency crews worked to extinguish the aircraft fire. Passengers and crew on board had to evacuate the plane through an emergency slide.

Passengers Safely Evacuated & Investigation Underway

Fortunately, no passenger or crew member was hurt during this horrifying incident. They were all able to evacuate the plane safely while the authorities doused the fire. As per the latest update, efforts were underway to remove the aircraft from the runway. The fire incident hampered the arrival of flights at the airport. Furthermore, the departures were shifted to a military-run runway.

The cause of the fire is still unknown. As per Azimuth Airlines’ statement, the plane had made a rough landing due to wind shear. Russia’s Federal Aviation Authority, Rosaviatsiya, is now investigating the incident to know more about the fire, Reuters reported.
