The climatic change has started to show its monstrous face to the world. Southern Turkey is fuming with wildfires and dozens of villages are being evacuated near the tourist hotspots. It has already claimed eight lives and the blazes also hit Greece, Italy, and Spain. Experts are saying that climatic change is responsible for increasing both the frequency and intensity of such blazes.
This Year’s Fire Season Is More Destructive Than Last Year’s
According to reports, this year’s fire season is said to be more destructive than the previous average. Turkey is suffering its worst fires in a decade with nearly 95,000 hectares burnt so far this year. Many villagers were also left stranded due to the fire. Unable to leave by road, about 540 residents were taken to hotels by boats, the channel said.

The Wildfires Broke Out In Greece & Italy
Meanwhile, a major blaze broke out near Patras in western Greece. The country was forced to evacuate five villages and hospitalise many with burns and respiratory problems in the region. Flames destroyed around 30 houses, barns and stables in the villages of Ziria, Kamares, Achaias and Labiri. The wildfires also hit Italy and more than 20,000 hectares of forest, olive groves, and crops were destroyed by the blaze in Sardinia.
Three large wildfires stirred across Greece on Saturday. The wildfires were so deadly that they threatened whole towns. Evia, the country’s second-largest island has been badly damaged. The wildfire engulfed forested mountainsides and ancient sites, leaving behind a trail of destruction. A fleet of ships and passenger boats waited at the seaside resort of Pefki, near Evia to evacuate tourists and residents.

Earlier this year, a massive fire had started spreading across Dzuko Valley, located at the borders of Nagaland and Manipur. The state government of Manipur had asked for assistance from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) to bring the situation under control. According to The Indian Express, a senior forest official has said, “As per the information gathered from villagers residing near the Nagaland border, the wildfire may have been raging since December 28 on the other side and reached Manipur border on Thursday morning. The matter is under investigation.”
