Newborn’s Body Discovered At Mumbai Airport: Police Launch Investigation
As reported by Moneycontrol News, a police officer of the Mumbai Police informed that the body was found around 10:30 pm. Sahar Police registered a case against an unknown individual and are attempting to locate the individual who had left the child behind. The body has been sent to Cooper Hospital for further investigation. Officials are scanning CCTV footage and questioning staff to gather leads.
The authorities are handling this case very seriously. They are checking if the child was born on the airport campus or not and checking for any connection with passengers or visitors.
This tragic event has again raised an alarm. Even though the motives behind such events are many, either because of fear, helplessness, or negligence, it highlights the need for awareness and safe delivery schemes for vulnerable women.
Unfortunately, this is not a rare case. In other parts of the country, there have been instances, too, where newborn babies were abandoned in risky areas. Experts maintain that counselling, crisis intervention, and accessible medical services for women experiencing unplanned pregnancies are necessary.
Another Shocking Case In Mumbai
This is just days after another gruesome crime was committed in Mumbai. A four-year-old boy belonging to a pavement-dwelling family was murdered by strangulation in Kandivali West. CCTV footage revealed an unknown man taking the child away before committing the crime. Police have filed a murder case and are investigating the matter actively.
The consecutive reports of such tragedies have shaken the people of Mumbai to their core. While authorities strive for justice, there is also an imperative need for tougher social safety mechanisms to avoid such incidents in the future.
The Mumbai airport discovery is a heart-wrenching reminder of the vulnerabilities of infants and children. It also prompts questions regarding the role of society in ensuring that no mother is desperate enough to take such an extreme step.
Strengthening support systems, safe spaces, and awareness could avert such occurrences.
