Typhoon Gaemi: Taiwan Gears Up For 1st Storm Of The Season; 4,000 Evacuated, 29,000 Soldiers On Standby & More

Taiwan is currently amping up to grapple with the first typhoon of its season. In order to safeguard the citizens from Typhoon Gaemi, people have been given the day off from work across the region. Flights to and from the region have also been cancelled. The government has also deployed military personnel who are on standby in case anything untoward happens. Here are all of the important details that you would need to know about this particular storm in Taiwan.

Typhoon Gaemi: Taiwan Gears Up For 1st Storm Of The Season

According to an article which was recently published by The Times Of India or TOI, the storm is characterised as medium strength by the Taiwanese government. It has managed to bring the entire country to a standstill.

As of now, the strong gusts of wind have managed to claim one life by toppling a tree over a person. In addition to this, as many as 58 people have been injured due to the storm. These incidents took place in the city of Kaohsiung.

A whopping 4,000 people have been evacuated from regions that were deemed risky. In addition to this, 29,000 military personnel are on standby in case citizens need rescuing. The storm is expected to hit the land by evening today.

Typhoon First Hit The Phillippines; Named Carina Over There

This storm first impacted the Philippines. Manila, the capital city of the country, was the most severely affected. As many as 600,000 people were displaced and 13 people were killed. Now, it is making its way to Taiwan.

As per the Taiwanese officials cited in a recent Reuters article, the next 24 hours are the most crucial and challenging of all. If reports are to go by, this typhoon has the potential to be the biggest one in recent years.

227 international flights and all the domestic flights have been cancelled to ensure safety. The rains in the region are estimated to pelt till July 31, 2024.
