Eric Garcetti, the newly appointed U.S. Ambassador in India, has been on his first visit to Mumbai since he assumed the position in April 2023. His position resides in New Delhi, and he paid a visit to Ahmedabad before coming to Mumbai. He has been indulging in all the experiences the city offers. He not only met Shah Rukh Khan at Mannat and Mukesh Ambani, Asia’s richest man but also had an insightful conversation with Eknath Shinde, Maharashtra’s Chief Minister, on his first day in the city. Turning his trip into a delicious one, he visited Kyani & Co., the legendary Irani cafe.

Exploring the best of Mumbai, his next stop was Kyani & Co., a century-old Irani cafe that has been serving the city with amazing biscuits, tea cakes, bread, and more. After it was revamped in the year 2000, it started serving iconic Parsi delicacies like Bun Maska, Kheema Pav, Akuri, and Mawa Cake. With good reason, Eric Garcetti chose to relish some deliciousness at this cafe. He even posted about it on Twitter.
He shared that he tried bun maska and the special Irani chai at this legendary eatery and instantly turned into a fan. In this post shared by him, we can see how much he loved this local dish. He even asked Mumbaikars to suggest something to try next. Obviously, Twitteratis fulfilled his request and gave him a lot of ideas.

To make his trip to Mumbai all the more meaningful, he paid a visit to the 26/11 Memorial at the Taj Mahal Palace Hotel. He honoured the memory of those who lost their lives in the attacks as well as Mumbai’s resilience. Before paying his respects at the memorial, he visited Keneseth Eliyahoo Synagogue.
He learned a lot about the Jewish community’s contribution to the city there. Next, he met with the governor of Maharashtra and discussed the state’s development with him. They had an interesting conversation about India and America’s collaboration on trade, climate, higher education, and women’s empowerment.
