As announced by the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation, the Eid al-Fitr holidays for private sector employees will be from Sunday, which is March 30 to Tuesday, April 1. It’s worth mentioning that this is going to be a paid holiday and applies to all employees and across all the sectors in the country. However, as revealed in a report by Khaleej Times, if the holy month of Ramadan concludes on the 30th day, then the holiday will be extended to Wednesday, which is April 2.

So, it’s not wrong to say that the duration of the holiday will depend on the Shawwal moon sighting. This can result in a four- or five-day weekend for employees. Since the Islamic months last between 29 or 30 days, these are highly dependent on when the moon is sighted. The moon sighting committee will be observing the crescent on March 29, and if the crescent is spotted in the evening, Eid holidays will be from March 30 to April 1. But if the moon is not sighted, then Ramadan will complete a 30-day cycle, and the first Shawwal will be on March 31. In this case, the Eid holiday will be on March 31, April 1, and April 2. So, residents will be given an extended five-day break. It’s worth mentioning that the public employees will also get a similar days of holiday.

In fact, people are already making plans to travel during the holiday to meet their loved ones or for leisurely purposes. As a result, popular routes are seeing a surge of 15 to 20,% with a rise in the hotel rates by 20 to 30% as well.
