Christianity Revived In UAE. We ain’t making any statements. We are just stating the facts that came up from the sources. Archaeological resources have dug into the past and found the spread of Christian monasteries dating from the era when Islam was yet to disperse across the region. These monasteries from the 6th & 8th centuries sit on the Umm Al Quwain of Siniyah Island. Let’s find out some interesting facts about these structures.
These Old Monasteries Are Settled On Persian Gulf Shores
The Emirate’s tourism and archaeological department announced the significant discovery on Thursday. It claimed that the edifice contained a church, dining area, storage tanks, and quarters for the monks.
The settlement may have been founded in the pre-Islamic era. The radiocarbon dating and analysis of pottery found at the site proves the above statement. It indicates that it existed during the late sixth century and the mid of the eighth century.
What Does The Structure Look Like?
The structure resembles a string of sandbars jutting off of it like bent fingers. The monastery acts like a guard to the Khor al-Beida marshlands in Umm al-Quwain.
The floor plan of the seminary on Siniyah Island reveals that early Christians may have worshipped inside a single-aisle church there. The presence of an oven suggested the cooking of bread for communion rituals. The archaeologists noted the presence of a wine setup and altar in the nave for the communion rites.
Archaeologists recently discovered the existence of such identical monasteries in Bahrain, Iraq, Iran, Kuwait, and Saudi Arabia.
There’s so much more to explore in these monasteries. The location will undergo more excavations at some point in the upcoming year.
