It’s official, the UAE has handed us the perfect excuse to take it easy. Friday, 27 June 2025, UAE confirms it as a public holiday to mark the Hijri New Year. That’s right, it’s time to clear your diary, make some fun plans, or just slow down for a bit as we welcome 1447 AH on the Islamic calendar. A long weekend couldn’t have come at a better time, could it?

Finally, A Break! UAE Confirms June 27 As A Public Holiday For Hijri New Year

Now, don’t just see this as another day off. The Hijri New Year carries deep meaning. Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) made his journey from Makkah to Al Madina El Monawara in 622 AD. This migration, or Hijra, as they call it, reshaped history and gave us the Islamic calendar. So spend the day in prayer, reflect on life’s challenges, or simply learn a little more about this history.

How To Make This Long Weekend Count

With the holiday falling on a Friday, you’ve got a golden opportunity to mak e the most of a long weekend. The question is — what’s your plan? A visit to a cultural museum or a heritage spot to soak up some history? Or how about just escaping to a nature reserve or a beach for a few hours of peace? Maybe staying home, making yourself a proper breakfast feast, and giving those gadgets a break for once can be a plan, too. So, step back from the daily grind this holiday and catch your breath.

What’s Next On The Holiday List?

If you’re already wondering when the next break will pop up, don’t worry — more is on the way. After the Hijri New Year, the next big date is Mawlid Al-Nabi, celebrating the birth of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), which should fall in early September. And then comes the one everyone circles in red — the December stretch with Commemoration Day and National Day close together, promising a proper holiday run.
