Nations across the world are today consciously taking steps towards introducing infrastructural development and upgrading their existing system, to make it more environmentally conscious. And as an Emirati, you’re probably already well aware that the United Arab Emirates is doing everything possible to ensure that they do the bit for the environment. And keeping up with this idea, the Minister of Energy & Infrastructure, Suhail bin Mohammed Al Mazrouei outlined the details for the National Electric Vehicle policy on Thursday, July 13, which had recently been approved by the UAE Cabinet. Here’s all need to know about this green development.

According to a report published by Khaleej Times, it was mentioned that this policy is a regulatory framework aiming to guide efforts for aligning the standards for the infrastructure of the electric vehicle charging stations. As a result, it should be mentioned that this policy is a result of the global EV market transformational project. Not to mention, it also supports the National Energy and Water Demand Programme objectives. It should be noted that these were launched for reducing energy consumption. The report quoted the minister saying that the policy will create an apt environment for green mobility, in turn helping the country in achieving its objective of reducing energy consumption by 40%!

Plans To Raise EVs To 50% In The UAE By 2050

As it happens, the share of electric vehicles is also expected to rise to a whopping 50% of the total vehicle on the roads by 2050. And the plan is to even reduce carbon emissions by 10 million tonnes in this sector by the same year, according to the report. Since the policy will accelerate the integration of electric and hybrid vehicles, this will in turn, helps in the establishment of world-class electric vehicle infrastructure. Moreover, the policy also aims at installing a comprehensive network of electric vehicle charging stations! At this point, it should be mentioned that this will be done in collaboration with the private sector and the local and federal governments.
