UAE Travel Trends: Plan Ahead, As Flights During Ramadan To Be More Expensive This Year

It’s no secret that the Middle East sees a major uptick in travel during the Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr holidays. This is especially true for people in the UAE! And in a recent report by Wego, which is the largest online travel marketplace in the Middle East and North Africa region, top travel trends for Ramadan 2024 were revealed for the UAE.

Wego Reveals UAE Travel Trends

According to Wego Data, the bookings for international flights from the UAE have already surpassed the numbers, as compared to the previous year. Yes, from the data compiled through the international bookings made in February, it was higher by 70.1% during the same period last year. Not to mention, with the consecutive occurrence of Ramadan, spring break, and Eid al-Fitr, many trips have already been scheduled in the coming months.

However, with the rise in the number of bookings, there are also expectations of rise in fares. According to the report, it was mentioned that flights are bound to be more expensive this year. For instance, the average airfare to Philippines, which is a favoured destination for people in the UAE, is AED1,331.93 as compared to AED895.56 in 2023. In fact, YOY average prices for flights to the UK and Germany have also seen a significant rise. Yes they have risen by 23.88% and 60.42%, respectively! As such, the report shows that Wego anticipates ticket prices to further rise for popular destinations, especially as more families start to plan their holidays.

Preferred Destinations For Travellers

Besides flights, there’s also an uptick in hotel occupancy in Dubai for February 2024. With the bookings surpassing last year’s figures by 23.2%, the average hotel room rates in Dubai have experienced a YOY surge of 20.3%. However, the highest travel interest is for Eid 2024. It’s especially true as Wego observes that there is a nearly fourfold increase in flight searches from the UAE for the festival as compared to Eid 2023.

In case you weren’t aware, the top destinations for UAE travellers during Eid al-Fitr are India, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and Jordan. This is an indication that many expat communities are probably looking to capitalise on the holidays to make their trips to home.
