UAE’s Iconic Buildings Light Up In Red As Hope Probe Nears Mars

Red Planet

The UAE will soon be the fifth nation in the world to reach the Red Planet if the mission becomes a success. Last year in July, the Hope probe was launched from Tanegashima Island in Japan. It then began a 493.5 million km journey to Mars. And after seven months, it is expected to arrive at Mars’ orbit on Tuesday, February 9. And to celebrate this occasion, several landmark building across the UAE lit up in red. Check out the pictures here.

In terms of the Hope probe, the next crucial step will take place tomorrow, where the spacecraft will rapidly reduce its speed from 121,000kmph to 18,000kmph to enter Mars’ orbit. Once it reaches the atmosphere, the spacecraft will study the climactic dynamics of the Red Planet for a full Martian year (687 earth days). Post that, it will gather and send back the new Mars data to the Science Data Centre in the UAE via different ground stations spread around the world.

And if everything goes as planned, then the probe’s successful arrival to Mars will make the UAE the fifth nation in the world to reach the Red Planet after the United States, Soviet Union, China, the European Space Agency and India.
