Uber To Roll Out Self-Driving Taxis In Saudi Arabia By The End Of 2025; Details Inside

Get ready to say “Marhaba” to the future of travel. Uber has just confirmed that self-driving cars will hit the roads of Saudi Arabia by the end of this year. Yes, seriously. It’s happening right here in the Kingdom. Under the patronage of Saleh Al Jasser, Minister of Transport and Logistic Services and Chairman of the Transport General Authority (TGA), a strategic partnership has been signed between Uber Technologies and the TGA to roll out autonomous vehicles in Saudi Arabia.

Self-Driving Ubers Are Coming To Saudi Arabia This Year

The announcement dropped during the Saudi-US Investment Forum in Riyadh, where Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi and TGA acting President Dr. Rumaih bin Mohammed Al-Rumaih signed the deal. According to the TGA, this initiative directly supports the National Transport and Logistics Strategy and is firmly aligned with Saudi Vision 2030, the Kingdom’s game-changing blueprint to diversify and modernise the economy.

Let’s translate all that transport speak into real talk: Saudi Arabia is serious about smart mobility. And Uber’s bringing the tech to the table.

The pilot programme will see autonomous Uber rides on Saudi streets by 2025 ends. But don’t worry, these won’t be driverless ghost cars just yet. Initially, each vehicle will have an onboard driver to oversee things during the early stages. Think of them as high-tech co-pilots rather than backseat spectators.

What This Means For You?

So, what’s the big deal? This move puts Saudi Arabia in the global driver’s seat of mobility innovation. By integrating autonomous vehicles into Uber’s existing ridesharing network, the Kingdom is setting the pace for the region in transport tech. The introduction of these vehicles is more than just a flex. It could mean reduced traffic accidents, better fuel efficiency, and way fewer awkward chats with your Uber driver (unless you’re into that). More importantly, it lays the foundation for sustainable, efficient, and futuristic public transport.
