The Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link or the USBRL is widely recognised as one of the most ambitious railway projects by the Indian Railways. It was recently announced that train services on a section of the rail line will open soon. It is likely that PM Modi will flag off the event virtually but officially, it hasn’t been confirmed. Here are all of the important details that you would need to know about the commencement of a section of this railway.

Train Services On Banihal-Sangaldan Section To Begin Tomorrow

Indian Railways will begin train services on the Banihal-Sangalden section of the USBRL from tomorrow, February 20. According to an article which was recently published by the Hindustan Times or HT, it is possible that PM Modi will flag off the event virtually.

However, an official confirmation regarding the same is still pending. The Banihal-Sangaldan section stretches across 48.1 kilometres. It was constructed at a cost of ₹15,863 crores as per sources from the railways cited in the article.

The officials also stated that the existing train services from Baramulla to Banihal will now be extended to Sangaldan. Located near the district headquarters of Ramban, this town is close to Chenab Valley.

More About This Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link

This section of the rail link features as many as 16 bridges. Out of these, 11 are major and four are minor ones. One of the bridges is also a road overbridge as per the HT article. As per a senior official of the railway cited in the article, more than 90 per cent of the section is tunnelled.

A total of 11 tunnels cover more than 43 kilometres of the section. The track also consists of a number of advanced features which prioritise passenger safety and convenience.
