The Odisha government’s flagship women-centric initiative, Subhadra Yojana, was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his visit to Odisha today. On Tuesday, this visit coincided with PM Modi’s 74th birthday and marked his first visit to the state since the swearing-in ceremony of Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on June 12.
What Is Subhadra Yojana?
Named after Goddess Subhadra, the sister of Lord Balabhadra and Lord Jagannath, Subhadra Yojana aims to empower women by providing financial support. The scheme is designed for women aged 21–60 who are eligible under the program. Over five years, from 2024-25 to 2028-29, each eligible woman will receive a total of ₹50,000. This amount will be disbursed in annual instalments of ₹10,000, credited directly to their bank accounts in two parts each year, as per The Hindu reports.
The initiative is anticipated to benefit more than 1 crore women across the state. On the day of the launch, PM Modi is expected to transfer the initial funds to the bank accounts of over 10 lakh women, marking a significant step in advancing women’s financial independence and empowerment in Odisha.
